back in action.

wow.
talk about a post-vacation adjustment.
i spent all last week with a cranky and sick little baby.  not fun. however, i'm back to blogging and last week makes me even more thankful for the restful time away!!

the mini-vacation was, in a word, bliss.
sleeping in. great restaurants. beautiful weather and scenery. no naptime limitations or diapers or strollers. and best of all, lucas all to myself. amazing.

here's a quick picture of us at Monticello:

not our best pic, and you'll have to take my word for the fact that the building in the background is a World Heritage site and not a bank. i promise it is. and i promise it was totally worth the visit. the place was just beautiful and interesting. here are just a few more pictures...

i have no pictures from the PBR event, but there are a few things you should know:
  1. if you ever have the opportunity to go see professional bull riding, you need to do it. ITS JUST SO EXCITING!!
  2. cowboy parents apparently love to name their baby boys things like "Colt" and "Skeeter" and most of all "Cody"...i'm pretty sure there are about 20 Codys on the circuit
  3. if you want to fit in, make sure you wear boots and jeans. bonus points for cowboy hat and belt buckle.  however, even though i knew better, i wore none of these. i was looking more PTA than PBR in my polo and cable knit sweater. but i'm not scared, and i like to think i wear my belt buckle on the inside. :)
  4. Brazilians are really good at bull riding. who knew?
and though it was soso sad that we were unable to have dinner with my beloved Beth (stupid schedules!), we started the weekend off with a memorable meal with the parents of our dear friends from California. catch that? yep, the friends weren't there and we'd never met their parents, but thanks to the magic of cellphones, we had a FANTASTIC time.  pleasant surprises are always welcome, especially on vacations.

and while i can honestly say that i didn't waste a second worrying or missing the baby, that is only because i knew that she was having a blast with her grandparents. and she was. i mean, look at that face:

so there you have it. Virginia Vacation 2010.
where should we go next year? :)

You KNOW that I am going to say Michigan, but I know the reality that it's not exactly what you are looking for :-) HA! And I am kind of nervous because "Jackson" seems kind of like a cowboy name, and I am not sure that's my dream job for him... oh well:)

ummmm.... I believe somewhere south of you on a beach. Maybe in Virginia or North Carolina or something? Duh! :)

Did your trip to Monticello change your view of Thomas Jefferson at all?

well, i don't know that it changed my view of him, but it DID help me understand the time and place so much better. i can totally "get" how you could think that you were master of your own little universe if you owned Monticello!
