lehighism: not-so-commonwealth.

quick lehighism, since i heard the term for the millionth time this morning...

the first time you hear someone refer to Pennsylvania as "the commonwealth", you might assume they simply enjoy using antique words.  or they're a British tourist.  or maybe you accidentally time-traveled to the year 1773.  all of these would be false interpretations. come to find out, there are four states that STILL use commonwealth in their official title.  Kentucky, Virginia, Massachusetts, and DINGDINGDING you guessed it...Pennsylvania.  i don't know if the other states throw around the term as often as their pennsylvanian cousins, but you hear it on a pretty regular basis around here ((on the news, in print, etc)).

they even have a stamp:

i think we can all agree that it's pretty hard to get more official than a stamp.  so, hats off to you, my fellow commonwealthers...in a single word you remind others that:
  1. you've been here a long time.
  2. being British wasn't all bad.
  3. you're not worried about it.
man, i love it here. :)
