lehighism: painfully long town names.

was watching the news tonight and was reminded of a lehighism that made lucas and i laugh ALL THE TIME when we first moved here. let me give you an example:

Me: (meeting a new person) So, where do you live around here?

New Person:  oh, i live in Upper Macungie Township. but i grew up in North Catasauqua-ville Borough...so you know, i've lived here pretty much my whole life.

Me:  ((nod and smile. act like those are completely normal town names. change subject.))

ok, yes, that second town is an exaggeration, but NOT BY MUCH.
when driving, all of these tiny, overly-named towns run together, making it impossible to know which town (or township or BOROUGH for heavensake) you are in. however, this all makes sense when you realize that most of these places have been on the map since well before the Revolutionary War. the towns would have each been a good mule-ride apart, i'm sure. and the names....well, i'm sure they made sense to someone at some point. :)

Funny. Have you ever seen the movie Mr. Deeds where Adam Sandler starts to fall in love with the "bad reporter" and she makes up a town name like Hudsonvillebaileynessville? It's just like your towns!!!! :-) By the way, love the new family pic and the background. Thanks for noticing my profile pic. I took like a GAZILLION before I got a good one. Do you know how HARD it is to take a pic of yourself? And I DON'T photograph well anyway. Sorry we won't see you at Christmas. Have a great one!
